I live in an apartment now. My children come to visit. Mostly I am alone. But I have books, music, poetry, crock-pot dinners . . . and a hot tub. My children and I sit in the roiling 110-degree water even when the ambient air is 20 degrees F, and the steam has condensed in frozen icicles hanging from the hot tub railing. We talk about life, their soccer goals and rugby tries, sore muscles, ornery pimples, church dances, dates and the prom, stubborn cowlicks and bad haircuts, good books, good movies, hopes and dreams. We flex our biceps and splash steaming water at each other and laugh. Sometimes after work I soak alone, watch the steam rise, and write a poem.
NO DIVING
in the hot tub
three feet deep
no diving sign in the tile
ice clings to the chrome railing
steam, and contemplations,
billowing, billowing
After your period of aloneness and contemplations will come a time of transition into the next chapter of your life, Roger. For now hot tubs and tea sound soothing to me.

Yes Roger I can surely relate to you and your situation…been there…done that ! The first time, I didn’t know how I was ever going to get thru it…especially during the holidays. But somehow I did!…. Thanks to the church Singles Dances and keeping busy, I was able to get thru it.
At least one good thing you have going for you is the fact that you are not an old duffer with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel! That’s when it can get quite concerning!
I hope things start smoothing out for you if they haven’t started already.
It’s like Pres. Monson says, “Our future is as bright as our faith”!
If there is anything that I can do just say.
ur future is as bright as our faith “
